Terms of Service
Last updated June 10, 2026
Welcome to Joe Tries. These terms are a plain-English agreement between you and Joe Tries LLC ("Joe Tries," "we," "us") covering joetries.com, including the blog, the product catalog, the home builder, and published homes (together, "the site"). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. What Joe Tries is
Joe Tries is an informational site about smart home products: a catalog of devices with specs and compatibility information, a tool for planning your own setup, and homes published by us and by other users. It is a research and planning aid, not a store. When you buy something, you buy it from the retailer, on their terms.
2. Your account
You can browse and build without an account. Saving your home to your account and publishing it require one. You are responsible for your account credentials and for what happens under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms.
3. Your homes and other content you submit
You own what you create here: your home layouts, names, descriptions, and notes ("your content"). When you publish a home, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, display, and share it as part of the site, including in the public homes catalog and in links people share. You can make a published home private again at any time, which ends public display going forward.
You agree not to publish content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, obscene, deceptive, infringing, or that includes someone else's personal information. We may remove or unlist any content at our discretion, with or without notice, including content reported to us. If you see something that should not be here, use the report link on the page or email joe@joetries.com.
4. Acceptable use
Do not abuse the site: no scraping or bulk-harvesting our catalog or compatibility data, no attempting to breach security or access other people's accounts, no automated account creation, no interfering with how the site operates, and no using the site to spam or mislead anyone.
5. Product information, accuracy, and safety
We work hard to keep specs, prices, and compatibility accurate: we confirm against manufacturer pages, date our checks, and cross-reference community databases. Even so, products change, pages go stale, and we make mistakes. Information on the site is provided as-is, without any guarantee of accuracy or completeness. Always confirm details with the manufacturer before you buy.
Nothing on this site is professional advice. Some smart home installs involve household electrical wiring. If you are not qualified to do that work, hire a licensed electrician. You are responsible for your own installation decisions and for following local codes.
6. Affiliate links
Some links on the site are affiliate links: if you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never change a product's verdict, ranking, or specs. The full story is on our disclosure page.
7. Our content
The site's design, code, articles, editorial text, the Joe Tries name, and the Joe penguin are ours and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Personal, non-commercial use is welcome. Republishing or systematically copying the site or its data is not.
8. Third-party sites
The site links out to manufacturers, retailers, and community resources. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, prices, or policies.
9. Disclaimers and limits on liability
The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent allowed by law, Joe Tries LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to one hundred US dollars (USD 100) or the amount you paid us in the past twelve months, whichever is greater.
10. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on the site infringes your copyright, email joe@joetries.com with the work, the URL where it appears, your contact information, and a statement that you believe the use is unauthorized. We will review and act on valid notices.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site evolves. The date at the top reflects the latest version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. For significant changes we will make the update visible on the site.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in California.
