A leak sensor is a small puck you drop on the floor under a water heater, a washing machine, or a sink, and it alerts you the moment it gets wet. It is the cheapest device on the site with the most expensive thing to prevent. The spec people skip is whether it has a siren of its own, which is what wakes you when the phone is on silent.

What decides compatibility
- A local siren matters. A push notification at 3am is not a smoke alarm.
- Most are Zigbee or Z-Wave and need a hub. Wi-Fi models exist and are usually pricier per unit.
- A probe cable extends the sensing point to the low spot under a heater or behind a washer, where water actually pools.
- Pair one with a smart shutoff valve if you want the leak stopped rather than reported.
How these connect to your system
A works-with badge does not say how the device gets there, and the path changes what you get. Direct means the maker built the integration and the device's own features tend to come with it. Via Matter means the standard controls work and anything unusual about the device may not carry over. Via a hub means you need a second box, usually the maker's own, before it works at all.
