Joe TriesDoor and window sensors compatible with SmartThings
SmartThings is one of the few systems that can pair sensors from many brands directly, because its hubs carry the radios those sensors use. That is also the catch: the sensor only works if your hub has its radio. Not every SmartThings hub has Z-Wave, so a Z-Wave sensor that pairs fine on one hub will not pair on another.

Check these before you buy
- Check your hub for a Z-Wave radio before buying a Z-Wave sensor. Look up your exact hub model, not just the SmartThings name.
- Zigbee sensors from brands that want their own hub (Aqara is the common one) may pair to SmartThings with fewer features, or not at all.
- Matter sensors over Thread need a SmartThings hub or station that is a Thread border router.

These join SmartThings through Matter, a shared standard, so no maker's cloud sits in the middle. The ones that use Thread also need a Thread border router, a radio built into some smart speakers and hubs.
