Door and window sensors compatible with Google Home
Google no longer sells a door sensor of its own. 11 sensors from other makers work with Google Home, almost all of them through the maker's hub or a Thread border router.
Door and window sensors are small battery devices on a low-power radio, and Nest speakers and displays have no Zigbee radio. So a Zigbee sensor reaches Google Home only through its maker's hub and cloud, which adds a box to buy and a hop to wait on. Matter sensors skip the maker's hub, but most of them run on Thread, which needs a Thread border router, built into the Nest Hub (2nd generation), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wifi Pro, and Google TV Streamer. Either way, check what Google Home lets you do with the sensor once it is in: a status tile is not the same as a routine that turns on a light.

Check these before you buy
- Find out whether you own a Thread border router. If you do, a Matter over Thread sensor is the shortest path and needs no maker's hub.
- Open the Google Home app's routines and check that an open or close event can start one. Some sensors show their state and nothing more.
- A sensor through the maker's hub and cloud stops working when that service has an outage, even when your own internet is fine.
Connects directly 1
The maker built this connection to Google Home. Some of these still need the maker's own hub, and the line under each product says so.
Connects through Matter 3
These join Google Home through Matter, a shared standard, so no maker's cloud sits in the middle. The ones that use Thread also need a Thread border router, a radio built into some smart speakers and hubs.

Needs a Thread border router (an Aqara Hub M3, a HomePod, an Apple TV 4K, or a recent Echo).

Matter-enabled; needs a Matter controller (Thread mode) or an Aqara Zigbee hub (Zigbee mode).

Matter over Thread; needs a Thread border router (IKEA DIRIGERA, Apple/Google/SmartThings hub). Also operates as Zigbee with a DIRIGERA hub.
Needs a hub first 7
These reach Google Home only through a hub, usually the maker's own. If you do not own that hub yet, add its price to the device's.

Requires an Aqara Zigbee 3.0 hub

Hub: Aqara hub or other Zigbee 3.0 hub

Needs the Aqara Hub M2.

Works over Bluetooth standalone; a Shelly BLU Gateway adds network/cloud and ecosystem access.

Needs a Zigbee hub/coordinator

Works over Bluetooth with the SwitchBot app; a SwitchBot Hub adds remote access plus Matter/Alexa/Google/HomeKit.

Requires the Wyze Sense Hub
Not on this list?
That does not mean it will not work with Google Home. It means we have not confirmed a path for it yet, and we add connections as we confirm them against the maker's documentation. How we check
