Wi-Fi locks connect to Alexa without a separate hub. Bluetooth-only locks need the maker's Wi-Fi bridge, and Z-Wave locks need a Z-Wave hub, because Echo devices have no Z-Wave radio. Locking by voice works out of the box. Unlocking by voice is off by default, and when you turn it on Alexa asks for a spoken PIN each time, so anyone in earshot hears it.

Check these before you buy
- Bluetooth-only locks need the maker's Wi-Fi bridge for Alexa and for remote access. Add its price to the lock's.
- Decide whether you want voice unlock at all. Many people leave it off and use Alexa only to check and lock.
- Wi-Fi locks drain batteries faster than Bluetooth, Z-Wave, or Thread locks. Check the rated battery life.
